Thengai Thovayal(Coconut Thick Chutney)

 

Serving:3 |Type: Side Dish/ Chuttney

 

Ingredients:

Coconut Grated -1/2 cup
Red Chili -3
Asafotida -1/4tsp
Mustard -1/2tsp
Urad Dhal -2tbsp
Curry Leaves -few
Salt -to taste
Water -to grind
Oil -1tbs
Tamarind -small marble size

Method:

  1. In a pan heat  oil, add mustard let it crackle, then add urad dhal fry it until light brownish.
  2. Next add red chili, asafetida and curry leaves and fry it 30 seconds.
  3. Now add coconut then turn off the stove, the coconut should not change color, therefore do not fry it for too long.
  4. Then grind it in the mixie with tamarind, salt and water.
  5. Grind very coarsely not into a very fine paste.
  6. Serve with idly, dosa, hot white rice with ghee or thengai pal kanji.
