Karuppu Ulundhu Choru (Black Urad Dhal Rice)

Serving : 4/ Type: Variety Rice

Ingredients:

Boiled Rice (Ponni) -1 ½ cup
Black Urad Dhal -3/4 cup
Grated Coconut -1/2 cup
Cumin -1tsp                           
Fenugreek Seeds -1/4tsp
Asafetida powder -1/4 tsp
Garlic -10 to 15 pods
Curry Leaves -2 string
Red Chili (optional) -2
Water -71/2 cup
Salt -to taste
Sesame oil -2tbsp

Method:

  1. Take a pan, add urad dhal dry roast it in medium heat until color changes, we will get good aroma.
  2. Before turning off the stove add cumin and fenugreek mix well and keep it aside for 2minutes.
  3. Take heavy bottom vessel add rice, roasted ingredients and wash it well.
  4. Now add water, garlic, red chili, asafetida, curry leaves and grated coconut.
  5. Mix it well, Boil it well.
  6. Now mix it and cover with lid.
  7. Make it simmer for 10 minutes, then open add sesame oil and salt mix well.
  8. Again, cover the lid and let it simmer for 10 minutes, then turn off the stove.
  9. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes now ready to serve.
  10. Serve with Sesame Chutney or Non-Veg Gravy.

Note:

  1. You can use whatever rice you have.
  2. You can adjust the water 1:3.
  3. While serving you can add 1 tsp of sesame oil and serve it.
  4. If you make it in the cooker add less water.
  5. Boiled rice is the Best, Matta rice also you can use.
