Ingredients:
Raw Rice | -2 cups |
Channa Dhal | -1/2 cup |
Brown Sugar | -1 to 1 ½ cups |
Cardamom | -½tsp |
Grated Coconut | -½ cup |
Salt | -a pinch |
Ghee | -2tbsp |
Water | 4 cups |
Nuts (optional) | -10 |
Method:
- Dry roast rice and dhal together until the raw smell goes away.
- Grind both in mixie coarsely.
- In a pressure cooker, heat the ghee and add ground powder with water and salt.
- Mix well and allow two whistles to come.
- Then turn off the stove and let it cool down.
- Then in the mixture add brown sugar, coconut, cardamom and nuts.
- Mix well and make it into either a round or an oblong shape.
- Then in a steamer, steam it for 10-15 minutes.
- Serve as a snack either hot or at room temperature.
Notes:
- This modhagam is a specialty for vinayaka chaturthi.
- Instead of brown sugar you can use jaggery.
- If you use jaggery, make sure to melt it with water and strain it.
- Raw rice are sona masoori and long grain. (I personally prefer sona masoori).
