Ingredients:
Roast and Grind:
Urad Dhal | -½ tbsp |
Channa Dhal | -½ tbsp |
Whole Black Pepper | -½ tsp |
Red Chili | -2-4 |
Curry leaves | -25 strings |
Asafotida | -½tsp |
Seasoning
Sesame Oil | -4-6tbsp |
Mustard Seed | -¼tsp |
Urad Dhal | -¼tsp |
Tamarind | -Lemon size |
Turmeric Powder | -A pinch |
Sugar | -1/2 tsp |
Salt | -To taste |
Garlic (Chopped) (optional) | -10 cloves |
Onion (Chopped) (optional) | -1/2 |
Method:
- In hot oil toast all the ingredients in roast and grind list.
- Then grind it smoothly into a paste in the mixie with water.
- Then in a tawa, heat sesame oil.
- Then add mustard seed and urad dhal.
- Sauté onion and garlic if you choose to use it.
- Then pour in the ground paste and let it boil.
- After it boils add tamarind extract, turmeric powder and salt and it boil again until kuzhambu gets thick.
- Then remove from heat.
- Add the sugar.
- Sever it hot with white rice
