Raw Thakkali Kootu (Green Tomato Gravy)

 

Serving: 4 | Type: Veg –Side Dish

Ingredients:

Raw Tomato -1 cup(Diced)
Green Chili -4(Slit)
Onion -¼ cup(Diced)
Green Gram Dhal -½ cup
Turmeric -pinch
Salt -to taste

Seasoning:

Oil -1tsp
Mustard -½tsp
Urad Dhal -½tsp
Cumin -¼tsp
Curry leaves -few
Red Chili -1
Asafotida -pinch

Method:

  1. Boil the green gram dhal (pasi paruppu) and keep it aside.
  2. Take a pan heat with oil add seasonings fry without burning.
  3. Add onion, green chili sauté for 1 minute.
  4. Then add green tomato sauté 3 to 4 minutes, add turmeric and salt mix it well. Now add ½ cup of water.
  5. Cook until tomato get soft, then add cooked dhal and boil it for 2 minutes.
  6. Then add grated coconut, turn off the stove.
  7. Garnish with coriander leaves .
  8. Serve hot with white rice.

Note:

  1. If you can not find green tomato you can use tomatillo.
  2. You can get tomatillo at all American grocery.
  3. Grated coconut is optional.
