Arisi Uppma Kozhalakattai (Steamed Rice Balls)

Serving: 15 to 20 pieces |Type: Snack

 

Ingredients:

Idly Rice or Boiled rice -1cup
Thoor Dhal -1tbsp(optional)
Coconut Grated -2tbsp
Salt -to taste
Water for grinding -½ cup

Seasoning:

Oil -2or3tbsp
Mustard -1tsp
Urad Dhal -½tsp
Channa Dhal -1tsp
Red Chili or Green chili -3
Curry Leaves -few
Asafotida -¼tsp
Onion chopped ¼  cup(optional)

Method:

  1. Wash the rice and dhal, soak it for 3-4 hours and grind coarsely with salt water.
  2. Take a pan heat with oil add seasonings fry without burning.
  3. Now add onion sauté for 1 minute on medium flame.
  4. Then add the ground paste, sauté well until all water will observe become like a chapatti dough. Keep stirring the mixture otherwise it will stick to the bottom.
  5. Now add the coconut and mix it well.
  6. Now turn off the heat and let cool down the mixture.
  7. Take a steamer or idly cooker and boil with water.
  8. Take the mixture make a  like lemon size ball, you can make the balls into either round or oval shapes or both.
  9. Steam it for about 15 to 20 minutes.
  10. Serve hot with chutney or idly powder.

Note:

  1. Instead of boil rice you can use the raw rice also.
  2. While grinding the rice you can add 2 tomato for extra flavor.
