Thirattuppal (Thicken Milk with Jaggery)

Serving:4 |Type: Sweet/Pillayar Nombu

Ingredients:

Milk -4 cups
Jaggery Powder -1 cup
Lemon Juice -1tsp
Cardamom Powder -¼tsp
Ghee -¼tsp

Method:

  1. Take a heavy bottom pan, preferably non-stick, boil the milk for 15 to 20 minutes until milk gets reduced to half of the quantity. You have to stir continuously.
  2. After it has reduced, add the lemon juice stir well for 5 minutes.
  3. Now add the jaggery powder mix it until it is thick like idly batter.
  4. Add cardamom powder and ghee.
  5. Garnish with nuts.

Note:

  1. Instead of jaggery you can use karuppatti, brown sugar or sugar (if you use plain sugar you will not get the brown color, however it will still taste the same).
  2. Instead of regular milk you can use half-and-half milk. In the US you can get half-and-half milk in the dairy product aisle, which is thicker than regular milk and the cooking time will be shortened.
