Aattukkal Soup(Goat or Lamb Shank soup)

Aattukkal Cut -400 grams
Thoor dhal -¼ cup
Onion Diced -1
Tomato Diced -1
Green chili -3
Turmeric -¼tsp
Coriander Leaves -2tbsp
Salt -to taste
Pepper Powder -1tsp


Oil -1tbsp
Pepper Whole -1tsp
Cumin -½tsp
Sombu(fennel seeds) -½tsp
Kal Pasi(Black stone flower) -1
Bay Leaves -1
Cinnamon -1 inch
Curry Leaves -few


  1. Pressure cook all the ingredients except for salt and pepper powder, for 3 whistle then simmer for 15 minutes and turn off the stove.
  2. Cool down the cooker then open it and boil for 5 minutes with salt.
  3. Take another pan heat with oil add seasonings fry without burning now add it into the soup.
  4. Check the taste, if it is not enough spicy enough, then add more pepper powder and serve hot .


  1. This soup can be made in the crock pot (slow cooker). Place all the ingredients in the crock pot, expect for salt, pepper powder and the seasoning ingredient.  Leave it on high heat for 5 hours. Afterwards, add the salt and pepper powder to taste. Finish off by adding the hot oil seasoning.
