Aappam with Coconut Milk

Serving: 35 to 40 pieces |Type: Breakfast

Aappam ready to eat!


For Aappam:

Idly Rice - 2 cups
Long Grain -2 cups
Urad Dhal -1/2 cup
Fenugreek -2tsp
Salt -2tbsp

For Coconut Milk:

Coconut milk - 2 cups
Regular milk -2 cups
Sugar -1 to 2 cups
Cardamom Powder -1 tsp
Salt -a pinch


For Aappam

  1. Soak the rice, dhal and fenugreek all together for 4-5 hours.
  2. In a wet grinder, grind the soaked ingredients and add water little by little.
  3. Grind until the batter is nice and smooth.
  4. Then take out the batter and keep it aside.
  5. Add salt and mix it in nicely with your hand.
  6. This batter should not be very thick or very thin.
  7. Place the batter in a warm place and overnight or for about 8-10 hours.
  8. Now you are ready to make Aappam.
  9. Next heat Aappam pan on medium flame and pour a small ladle full of batter.
  10. Then swirl the aappam pan in a circular motion to make it into a circular shape.
  11. Close it with a lid for 1 minute.
  12. After a minute slowly lift the sides of the Aappam with a spatula and check if it cooked.
  13. Then remove the Aappam from heat.
  14. Serve with coconut milk

For Coconut milk:

  1. In the microwave, warm the regular milk for 3 minutes.
  2. Mix it with coconut milk, sugar, cardamom and salt all together.
  3. Then pour it over the aappam to make it nice and soggy.
  4. Enjoy!
