Sambar Sadham(Rice with Lenthil Gravy)

Ingredients:

Raw Rice -1cup
Thoor Dhal -½ cup
Turmeric -Pinch
Water 5cups

 

For Sambar:

 

Mixed Vegetable -3cups
Sambar Powder -2tbsp
Tamarind -Small lemon size
Turmeric -¼tsp
Onion(optional) -1
Tomato(Medium size) -2
Oil -3tbsp
Mustard -1tsp
Red chili -2
Green Chili -2
Asafotida -1tsp
Salt -to taste
Curry leaves -few
Ghee -2tbsp(optional)

 

Method:

  1. Mixed vegetables like eggplant, Drumstick, white pumpkin, carrot, green beans, peas, potato, bell pepper.
  2. If you add 2 or 3 okra taste is so good.
  3. Pressure cook rice and dhal together with water and turmeric for 3 whistles then keep it simmer for 5 to 8 minutes, then turn off the stove.
  4. Take a deep dish vessel  heat with oil add seasonings fry without burning, then add onion, green chili sauté for a minute.
  5. Now add tomato sauté until tomato get smashed, then add vegetables  sauté with salt and turmeric.
  6. Then add sambar powder mix well then add 3 cups of water.
  7. Meanwhile soak the tamarind with ½ cup of water and squeeze out the pulp and add it into the sambar.
  8. Boil it until all vegetables get soft, then turn off the stove.
  9. Open the pressure cooker mash the cooked rice, then add the sambar into it mix well.
  10. Cook for 10 minutes on medium flame , then add the ghee.
  11. Serve with appalam or chips.
