Curry Leaves Kuzhambu

Serving: 4 People| Type: Veg Kuzhambu


Roast and Grind:


Urad Dhal -½ tbsp
Channa Dhal -½ tbsp
Whole Black Pepper -½ tsp
Red Chili -2-4
Curry leaves -25 strings
Asafotida -½tsp


Sesame Oil -4-6tbsp
Mustard Seed -¼tsp
Urad Dhal -¼tsp
Tamarind -Lemon size
Turmeric Powder -A pinch
Sugar  -1/2 tsp
Salt -To taste
Garlic (Chopped) (optional) -10 cloves
Onion (Chopped) (optional) -1/2


  1. In hot oil toast all the ingredients in roast and grind list.
  2. Then grind it smoothly into a paste in the mixie with water.
  3. Then in a tawa, heat sesame oil.
  4. Then add mustard seed and urad dhal.
  5. Sauté onion and garlic if you choose to use it.
  6. Then pour in the ground paste and let it boil.
  7. After it boils add tamarind extract, turmeric powder and salt and it boil again until kuzhambu gets thick.
  8. Then remove from heat.
  9. Add the sugar.
  10. Sever it hot with white rice
