Medu Vada (Urad Dhal Vada)

Serving: 12 to 15 Pieces | Type: Snack/Pillayar Nombu

Ingredients:

 

Urad dhal                     -1 cup

Green chili                    -2 (Optional)

Ginger                          -1/4 inch (Optional)

Onion                           -1 small (Optional)

Curry leaves                 -few

Coriander leaves           -2 tbsp

Salt                              -to taste

Oil                                -for frying

Method:

  1. Soak the urad dhal for 1-2 hours.
  2. Grind the dhal for 20 minutes by adding water a little at a time. It should be looser than chappathi dough but thicker than Idly batter. Grind into smooth paste.
  3. Meanwhile in the mixer grinder add chili and ginger. Grind like coarsely without adding water.  Add it into the dhal batter.
  4. Add salt, curry leaves, coriander leaves and onion.
  5. Mix well everything together.
  6. Then heat the oil in the pan.
  7. Make the vada and deep fry until golden.
  8. Serve it hot.

Note:

1. For one cup dhal it gives 12 to 15 vada.

2. You can add 1 tsp cumin with curry leaves and salt for extra taste.
