Masala Vadai (Bengal Gram Dhal Vada)

Ingredients:

Kadalai paruppu -1 cup
Thur Dhal -1/4 cup
Red Chili -5
Cumin -1/4tsp
Aniseed(Sombu) -1/2tsp
Garlic -1 pod
Salt -to taste
Asafotida -1/4tsp
Water Little to grind

Mixing:

Onion -1/2 cup(chopped)
Coriander Leaves -2tbsp (chopped)
Curry Leaves -1tbsp (chopped)
Green Chili (optional) -1 (chopped)
Kadalai Paruppu (soaked) -2tbsp (optional)
Oil -For Frying

Method:

  1. Soak  both dhals about  1-2 hours.
  2. Grind all the ingredients listed for grinding very coarsely into a batter.
  3. Don’t add too much water.
  4. Mix all other ingredients listed for mixing, except oil.
  5. Take a pan heat with oil, make a small and round disc, place in the hot oil and fry it.
  6. Fry until it is golden brown on medium flame.
  7. Serve it hot with ketchup.

Note:

  1. You can use yellow split peas instead of both dhals.
  2. You can use cabbage instead of onion.
