Thakkali Tharakkal (Tomato Gravy for Breakfast)

Serving: 4 |Type: Chettinad -Side Dish for Tiffin


Onion(Diced) -1 cup
Tomato(Diced) -1cup
Chili Powder -2tsp
Dhaniya Powder -3tsp
Turmeric -pinch
Salt -to taste
Coriander -few 


Oil -2tbsp
Mustard -1tsp
Urad Dhal -½tsp
Sombu -½tsp
Cumin -½tsp
Fenugreek -¼tsp
Red chili -1
Curry Leaves -few



  1. Take a heavy bottom vessel heat with oil then add seasonings fry without burning.
  2. Then add onion sauté for 1 minute then add tomato, pinch salt and turmeric until tomato get mash.
  3. Now add chili, dhaniya powder mix well.
  4. Then add 2 cups of water cook until raw smell goes and it gets thicken, then turn off the stove.
  5. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  6. Serve with idly or dosa.
